Midweek Munchies
It is that day again.. Happy "midweek munching" everyone!
The biggest mangoes I've ever seen were $1.49 at Whole Foods. They were so good and now I wished I got more because the 4 that I got are all gone!
At a restaurant, over the weekend, one of the kids (guess which one!) dropped and broke the camera.
I have challenged myself to lower our grocery bills for the next few weeks. I figured if I save at least $50 a week in groceries it would be easier to replace the camera, which I so desperately want since Zurielle's birthday is coming. Any advice? (If I just succumb to buying all conventional produce vs. organic, I would save some already.)

I'm getting the smaller container because the bigger one is grade B. I always get the A kind, but would really like to take home a larger container next week. Regarding the grades of maple syrup:

I usually buy Grade B, mainly because my health food store sells it in bulk.
Hey, Shawn! You cancelled your blog?
Thanks for the info and for pointing me to the "bulk" direction! I never even thought about checking with the co-op, which we are a member of. I haven't been there in a while, Whole Foods is just too convenient! I just called the co-op and they do have the Grade B in bulk. Woo hoo! Thanks.
(This is a retype- don't know what happened to my original reply, it never posted.)
Hello - I found you through Harmonia's Midweek Munchies, which I just started doing last week. It's fun!
Sorry to hear about your camera...wonder if it'd be inexpensive to fix...if you take it in they may tell you.
Question for you -- when you use applesauce to replace oil, is it an equal ratio? What I mean is if it calls for 1 cup oil, do you use 1 cup applesauce?
oo what are the plans for the navy beans, kai?
Thanks for playing along again this week! Your list looks great I have a few questions and comments...
(Also I replied to your comment on my blog)
I will have to check out the link for the fudge bars...sounds very tempting...never seen them before (around here anyhow)
Seduction Bread? Let me in on the lil secret when you have time!
What recipes for cookies do you have that use applesauce in them? I have been thinking about trying it.
AND...MANGOS! I have been eyeballing them at the store. I have eaten them out and about but never bought them for home. Perhaps next week I will.
Thanks for the ideas!!!
Ah yes, my deleted blog -- a tip regarding blogging: If you work for a public school, don't link to your blog from your school webpage if you post regarding your Christianity. Ugh.
I'll probably start another blog, and just not supply a link on my school webpage, to avoid the "talks" (yes, I'm sure I would win in the long run, but it's not worth the fight)
Thanks for noticing! I think you were the only person to ever visit my short lived blog. ;o)
Hi, Vicki!
Hubby called around for the camera, they would fix it for $140-170. I don't think we want to do that.
Yes, I replace the oil with the same amount of applesauce. I'm not really sure if that's how it should be, but the outcome is always good and moist.
Hi, Jess!
The navy beans are for the kids' baked beans. Don't know when I'll get to that though:)
Hi, Harmonia!
I get the fudge bars and the seduction bread from Whole Foods Market. That fudge bar is almost too good to be true.
I don't have a particular recipe using applesauce but I just sub everything that calls for oil with it. I've been baking from Dreena's Vive Le Vegan using that instead of canola oil. I have never been disappointed with the result.
Hi, Shawn! Let us know when the new blog is up!
Thanks for all the answers and info! I hae been*trying* a bunch of new things period. Most of Dreena's stuff from Vive Le Vegan, too. I will have to try applesauce in place of oil. Sounds good! I will be posting a short post later today and won't be back until Tuesday...maybe Wednesday. I still would love comments though.
Have a great weekend!
