"Behind Closed Doors"
Or should I say open doors? My blogging has been sporadic and I haven't been around so I decided to post this to break the ice. I have missed visiting and reading favorite bloggers' thoughts but I'm still not certain I could visit on a regular basis.
Lately in blogdom, we've seen kitchen tours, a cleaned refrigerator, cupboards, bookshelves and all kinds of interesting places that I really enjoyed perusing. Here's my share, though nothing so unusual yet I had a lot of fun taking these photos and sharing them with you!
Aliyah calls this part of the cupboard the "bulk section." She enjoys making trail mixes for her and little sisters.
a closer look...

and below that...

Now, let's turn around.
Aliyah call this the "baking cupboard." Whenever we bake, I have her read the recipe, get all the ingredients (plus bowls, measuring cups, baking dish, etc.) and put them away for me. Easy baking, I call it!

You have such neat and tidy cupboards ! They look full of goodness too.
GREAT shelves. NEAT and filled with great stuff...
Thank you for sharing!!
Were you off CLEANING all week?!? J/K. Great shelves Kai. You must have *just* done this all since you recently have had a change in diet (ei, processed foods).
Everything looks nice and labled, which is super great for the kids, I'm sure.
Tell me... did you dust and clean before these photos? It's immaculate in there. I just took mine as-is (dreadfully looking back...).
Great ice-breaking post.
Wonderful photos, Kai. I must agree with everyone that it looks immaculate! I'm feeling a little ashamed now, because I noticed in my podcast this morning that there was a dirty paper plate sitting on on the chair next to me, and dog toys strewn all over the floor...
Oh well, if that's the worst thing that happens to me today, it's a good day. :)
Great to hear from you again -- I hope everything is going well for you.
Patty and Kleo- thanks:)
Leslie, the shelves are lined with sticky plastic that's why they look shiny. If you enlarge the photos you'll see that I didn't do the cleaning and dusting, hehe.
And yes, the labels are mostly for the kids' purposes. Aliyah made most of them, too.
Except for those with nuts and seeds, I've had these containers forever, but now they are filled with good stuff, instead of crackers, boxed cereals, etc.or instead of being unused. As you can see, I recycle jars, too. Oh, and those containers with vanilla extract, molasses, etc. are the newest addition here. I get syrups in bulk at the co-op now (thanks to Shawn), and they carry all sorts of fun containers. Does your WFM carry liquids in bulk?
Anyhow, we have a house that constantly needs picking up and 3 busy kids. Things all over the floor don't bother me anymore, but I'm "a little obsessed" with keeping cupboards/cabinets the way they are. This is my "escape":)
I'm jealous of all of your pretty canisters. I use an old Rubbermaid set with dingy beige lids, and a load of quart-sized plastic yogurt containers. They work well, and I'm glad I've found a new use for them, but they aren't as pretty as yours! I'm jealous of those stackable click-loc ones -- I saw some at my "mothership" (i.e., Kitchen Window in uptown,) last weekend, and started drooling . . . !!
AND, welcome back to posting! How was your conference?
Kai, yes, our WFM as well as our co-op has bulk liquids.
Can you repost that link for coupons? I remember you telling someone, "looking for coupons, www...." Thanks Kai.
my pantry is covering its face in shame. yours is so neat and organized! i am too, but only in my dreams...
Catherine, I almost got a bunch of the smaller stackable click-locs when I went to Storables in Edina. I had them (with white lids- cute!) in the cart already, then I realized that it's ridiculous to pay that much for that purpose! But I came home with a couple of square glass jars for pastas.
The homeschool conference was good. I spent more than I wanted to, but at least it's in St Paul this year so no travel expenses and such.
Leslie, I should ask then why our local WFMs don't have liquids in bulk!

Hi, Stef. The rest of my life is not that organized, so this makes up for it! lol
And you are such an awesome h/s mom!
You have a very neat pantry! I am jealous...ha ha.... I am so embarrased of my own at home.
SIV
Wow. Where do you buy the canisters that you put the granola and such in? I need some of those. ;) You have given me some ideas. thanks so much. My cupboards and refrigerator are chaos in comparison. ;)
Thanks, SIV!
Tara- I got those canisters from a store called "Organized Living" a long time ago. We don't have that store here anymore, but there's a newer one called "Storables". Check if you have them locally.

I've recently seen similar canisters at Kohl's. They also have them in boxed sets, which makes them much cheaper.
I bought mine as individual pieces, and I really had some guilt when I got them (with other kinds not shown), but now, after years of using them, I think they're worth it:)
Your fridge and cabinets are an inspiration to me, mine are in such utter chaos. I love the simple idea of just labelling all the jars, I know which is millet and which is buckwheat but if I ever had to ask my husband-no way!
Beautiful children.
