Midweek Munchies

Harmonias Midweek Munchies Meme
A Veg*n Meme

What wonderful foods did you bring home from the grocery store?

Midweek Munchies: What KAIVEGAN is contributing for the week

The kids seem to be enjoying their Pina Colada soy smoothies at the co-op's bar. Soy Latte for mom.

I have gone to four different stores since Thursday: an Indian grocer, the (Southeast) Asian market, the co-op and twice at Whole Foods. The list could be long so I decided to just include food that are most likely not going to be on your list, those that are not normally on mine, or those that I would like for you to try!

The asterisk (*) stands for ORGANIC. Now, let's get started.

jackfruits, plantains
banana leaves
glutinous (or sweet) rice
coconut milk
grated cassava, frozen
fresh curry leaves
tapioca pearls
garbanzo bean flour
*2 pound bag of lemons (don't know how I managed not getting them by bags in the past)
asafoetida
garlic pita

IN BULK:
*brown mustard seeds
*garam masala (I really have to make my own)
*fenugreek seeds
*adzuki beans
*chai tea

*Earth's Best Baby Care lotion
All Terrain Hand Sanz (with Aloe & Vitamin E)
Nature's Gate Papaya Moisturizing lotion

Happy MM'ing everyone. I should be able to post about some of the things we made sometime this week.

Ooh, I can't wait to see what you'll be cooking up. I love the foods and flavors you listed. Again, your girls are beautiful and that co-op bar looks super-fancy! I am really looking forward to some upcoming meals (hint hint, no pressure!)

Hi there! I answered your question on my blog within comments. I am jealous of your list this week ! LOL

Questions for you:
What are your intentions with the Tapioca?

What is asafoetida?

Oh! And most importantly...great pic...the girls are lovely as usual.

Leslie, the co-op's bar is the kids new favorite hangout. lol. We were there again today.

I took quite a few photos of food this week, it's just a matter of being able to finally blog about them. Working on it:)

Harmonia, asafoetida is used in Indian cooking. Check this out:

I added the tiny tapioca pearls in the sweet rice with coconut milk dessert that I made the other day. The bigger tapioca pearls I used in a sweet drink for the kids.

Hi Kai! Your girls are the picture of cuteness for sure!! :) By the way, I wanted to thank you for your sprouting post the other day. I did some sprouting months back, but just with the seeds and using a jar at home. This tray that you have seems like a much better tool, and certainly allows you to make a bigger batch than what I could get in a jar. So thanks for the info!! :)

Kai, can you recommend a good Asian grocer and Indian grocer?

Dreena, you are so very welcome:)

Catherine, check out United Noodles by the Riverside/I-94/Cedar area. Not only the biggest, but the cleanest as well. Better yet, check them out here:

They also have a smaller store at the Midway Global Market. (Lake St. & Chicago) Btw, if you haven't checked Midway Global Market out at the old Sears bldg, go! I'm about to blog about it now.

The Indian grocer that I know of is in Eagan, so that's probably not gonna work out for you.

Kai, thanks for the info! I'll have to go check that place out. I'll keep searching for a nice/tidy/clean/friendly/well-stocked Indian grocer in the city!
